College Scholarship Program
Eligibility Requirements
The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, Order Sons of Italy in America, awards college scholarships to high school seniors through our Dante Commission on Education/Culture. Thirty-three (33) grants of $2,000 each will be awarded to Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania members or children of members who will complete high school at the end of the 2007-2008 school year and enter an undergraduate college program in the Fall of 2008.
This year, the Dante Commission is hoping to begin a new collaborative scholarship program with selected colleges and universities in the commonwealth. The program would work as follows: Those schools that agree to partner with the Dante Commission would match the $2,000 Dante Scholarship with their own $2,000 scholarship for those students who agree to attend that school in the Fall of 2007. We are hoping to offer at least five (5) matching grant scholarships for 2008. Please watch our newspaper for further information on this program.
To be eligible to compete for a grant from the Dante Commission, you must have an overall grade average of, at least, 3.0, B or (85). Membership in the Order must predate the application by at least two (2) years. Although an application may be submitted based upon a parent’s membership, a student selected to receive a grant should consider becoming a member of the filial lodge or joining as a Student At-Large member of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania.
If you are interested in applying for a grant, complete the attached scholarship application. Give the enclosed letter and forms to your school principal or guidance counselor. Also be sure to provide the school official with a stamped envelope addressed to the Dante Commission on Education/Culture. Remind your principal or guidance counselor to send the transcript and forms directly to our office.
Your completed application must be received at the Grand Lodge office by February 28, 2008 to be considered. Please note that the President of the lodge to which membership in OSIA is based must also sign your application.
